Laptop Screen dimming...?

I have a Persario X1000, and I am currently running fedoracore core 2. When I installed and tried out ArchLinux a little while ago, the Fn buttons worked to dim and brighten the LCD screen. But in FC2 they don't work. Is there anything that I can do to get them working? I have done some looking but I can't find anything.

That's really strange; i believe that they are hardwired in the laptop itself, because i can dim my laptop's screen (Dell 5100) before the operating system is loaded, and even before LILO loads. Maybe it's not the same for your laptop... i wouldn't know exactly :-/

I can adjust it when I first start my laptop... just as soon as linux boots, I can't do it anymore.
