Laptop printing on wireless router
So, thanks to Jackson1995 et al I managed to set up my dell inspiron 1150 wireless, with wpa encryption as it should be.
Now, the wireless router I use (smc2804 WBRP-G) has a USB port and an integrated printserver. In windows, this is configured as a standard tcp/ip printerport, e.g. LPT1 on 192.168.2.1 with protocol LPR.
I tried to get it to work with cups, setting the LPD/LPR protocol, same adress, i.e: lpd://192.168.2.1/LPT1 as a device URI
Doesn't work. I also tried all the other things (ipp, http, ...) to no avail ... Ideas anyone?
Regards,
Peter

I am using a usb print server attached to a wirless router under slackware.
socket://192.168.1.2:9100/printers/your printer name, is the address I use for my HP printer. Configured through cups.
Sorry I cant help further, but this may get you going.

Just a thought, but are you sure your printer can actually work with a network print server. There are many that can't. What brand/model of printer is it?

The printer is a HP PSC2450, printer, scanner, photocopier, fax. The print server is a Buffalo LAN - USB. I purchased them in Japan where I work and live at the moment.
I configured CUPS to use AppSocket/HP JetDirect and assigned the address as above. It was an educated guess. Just a work around, but it works perfectly. The print server comes with UNIX instructions, in Japanese of course.
Network Scanning is a WIP and so I switch to a direct USB connection if I need to use the scanner, which is rarely.

HP deskjet 895cxi ... and it can (and does) under windows so as a regular tcp/ip port. I am not sure how this router works but you stick the USB printer in it and it acts as a network printserver .. no doc on protocols or whatever ...
