laptop password problem

I have been offered an
IBM Thinkpad G40 / P4 2.4 Celeron / 256 MG 266MHZ DDR Ram / 40 GOG Hdd / 15" TFT in trade.

The current owner set the passwords then forgot them.

Can I install Mandriva 2005LE and not have to worry about passwords; or, solve the password problem?

I would think it depends on the password. If it's a BIOS password and it's set to keep it from booting, you can't just ignore the password. However you should be able to contact the support folks and they would be able to get you thru procedures to reset the password.
