laptop not working, all I get is black screen
 

I have a Dell Latitude cpx laptop. It was working before, while I was using it with XP on it, it suddenly crashed on me. It just died and got black screen. When I turn it on, all I get is black screen. Everytime I turn it on. I see the LED's power on, but nothing shows up on the screen. All I see is black screen. I was planning to install linux on it. Where should I start troubleshooting?

If all you see is a blank screen (no BIOS splash screen or anything else) then take/send the laptop into a repair center. nothing to troubleshoot unless your a laptop repair technican with access to a replacement screen and/or system board. The only thing you can try is plugin an external monitor to the laptop and see if any output is available.

Sounds like either the video chip (no video on any monitor) or the LCD screen has died, niether are replaceable by the average user.
