laptop keyboard problem

hi,
I have just installed mandriva onto a Samsung VM8000 laptop. the installation seems to have gone OK except for a keyboard problem. The VM8000 has a function key that when certain keys are pressed in conjunction with it produce different outputs - eg fn+k will give the number 2.
My problem is that the fn key seems to be working in reverse - IE when I press the letter k I get a 2 but to get the letter k I have to press fn+k.
I have contacted a user on the laptop-linux.com website who gave me a couple of suggestion's but none of them have worked.
Can anyone please help? Please note I am a complete beginner when it comes to linux. thanks in advance
Antony

<edit> Since posting this I have discovered that the problem was being caused by the num-lock being on by default. I have tried changing this in the cmos but nothing changes. so my question now is how can I turn off the num-lock in linux?

Hello!

It can be distro specific, but there are plenty of tutorials online. Try a search on your favourite search engine (I get loads of results on Yahoo) for "linux numlock boot".

If none of those work, let us know!

Jamie.

Chane the keyboard type

Hi,
Actually I am not work with mandriva yet.But I can give you a suggestion to solve this.
You may have to goto the control center(Regional and Accebility Options) and change keyboard layout for laptop (i think there is a option for it).So just try it.
