laptop fan - ubuntu

I recently switched over to Ubuntu from SuSE, and everything is great except for one thing: my fan runs too much. It was barely ever on when i ran SuSE, but now it seems to turn on every 5 minutes or so and is running at the higher (and louder) speed. The temps seem normal (it was running when the temp was 62C, for example), but it continues to turn itself on.

lsmod reveals that the fan mod is there. i also have /proc/acpi/fan.

does anyone know how i can change the fan config so it isn't on so much?

i'm running a toshiba m30-s309, if thats of any consequence.

thanks,
e.j.
