Laptop doesn't suspend in Ubuntu 10.04
 

Hi guys! I hope you're all OK! I have a little issue since mi laptop just couldn't suspend out of the box in Ubuntu 10.04.
Doing some research, I found out that with uswsusp I could make it happen, and it actually worked!!
The problem here is that the only way to suspend the laptop is by console with the command:

But if I either close the lid or select suspend from gnome menu, it just shows me a screensaver.

Is there a way to tell gnome to use uswsusp instead of its default??

i dont know the command way but there is a really quick solution that for me has worked in 9.04 9.10 and now 10.04 goto/system/preferences/power management and a tabbed dialogue box will appear there is your answer its fast and efficient if the gui way is not what you seek and you would rather have the enjoyment of writing your own command im not experienced enough to help you and if you dont get an answer rewrite the thread and post it in programming or somewhere the really experienced users wonder around good luck

Thanks for your response. Yes, in the power management options it is configured to suspend when I close the lid and when I push the suspend button. But options there don't let me change the responsible for the suspension (pm-utils in this case). So when gnome-power-manager calls by a hal script, a suspension, pm-utils doesn't respond, maybe because my hardware isn't supported.

Any other ideas??

I'm currently having the same issue with my laptop: when I close the lid or run 'suspend' from terminal, it just locks the screen.
By following output from /var/log/pm-suspend.log I noticed that it actually does suspend, but gets awoken instantly.

Hi there I have recently upgraded to the last kernel update (the one that ubuntu provides) and suspension works like a charm. I'm not currently at the pc but I believe that the version is 2.6.32-24.
