Laptop Compatibility

I am looking at new laptops and think the lenovo r520 or toshiba portege are nice. Which laptop is most compatible with linux? Are there special distros for either one of these brands? Also, which wifi network card works best with linux? I now have a eee pc with atheros wifi with linux and it is ok but sometimes not so good.

Thank you for any tips.

Most distributions have a list of certified/supported hardware, for example:

http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/
http://www.redhat.com/rhel/compatibility/hardware/

The fool-proof method is to purchase a laptop with Linux pre-installed from a vendor like Dell, System 76, etc. :)

Ok, thank you. I don't want to use Dell because they are not so nice where I live. After I pay them they cancel my order because they don't have anymore free printers and I have to wait for 5 months to get my money back.

But the ubuntu page looks very good. I think most important is for wifi to work and ubuntu page also shows which wifi card works on lenovo. I also see portege by toshiba but not the laptop I am looking at. Maybe I ask in ubuntu forum for more information but lenovo is already ok.

Thanks for your help.
