L0ss of intensity control and volume control

After the latest couple of updates for Limnux Mint Quiara, I now have no control over display intensity from the "F" keys and no control over audio volume lower/higher/mute using "F" keys. Not sure how to go about restoring these options which are handy. No error messages are displayed. This is on an HP laptop.Pavilion DM4.

not sure what "intensity" is, but...

your Desktop Environment probably has a hotkey management application; go there and configure the keys in question to do what you want.

example:
- open terminal, enter 'xev' and press the key you want to raise volume
- tell the hotkey app to assign the command 'amixer sset PCM,0 2+' to that key

etc.

Loss of intensity/audio control

Thanks OnDoHo: By intensity control I meant brightness. Working with electronic oscilloscopes we frequently used one term as a synonym for the other. Anyway use of tghe terminal command XEV worked like a charm.
Thanks
