kubuntu 7.10 Video Problem on Unichrome Pro IGP

Hi,
I have an Averatec 5400 with (K8M800 chipset) video is Via unichrome pro IGP and at the moment it has Freespire 2 on it.

I tried to run Kubuntu 7.10 as live cd and it keeps going 'buggy' when x starts. The screen will go black and the it will flash purple patterns and it will repeat this a few times and never actually load KDE.
Initially I though it might be the video card and so I tried to run it in safe graphics mode and still get the same problem.

It's a pity because I installed it on my desktop (nvidia card) and it worked great.

Any ideas on how to get around this. Any info on the card, or if openchrome will work with it and will it be 3D capable????

It works for me with Slackware-current and derivates (Slax, NimbleX) with a compiled openchrome driver (called "via" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf). I have 3D available with this driver.

Thanks

Thats good to know.
SO do I install it and then edit xorg.conf and type in 'via' as oposed to 'vesa' or whatever it says there
