KMPlayer Gamma WAY Too Bright

Hello all,

I've been trying to get video to play in KMPlayer under Mandriva linux on and off for a day now and I have an issue.

All videos play with what seems to be a very, very high gamma level.

Any text on screen, details and such are all completely washed out and the image is practically white.

How can I adjust this?

I'm running on an Acer Aspire 3620:

Intel Celeron M 1.5Ghz
1GB RAM
100GB HD
Intel GMA900 Chipset Video

If you need any more specs I can give them but the rest of the laptop is stock, anyway.

I tried to take a standard screenshot and the video overlay simply turned out blue - oops. So I can't show you what I mean but suffice it to say, it's so bright the second you see the video you know it's wrong.

Okay, I've figured out how to fix it.

The driver KMPlayer was using for video output was the problem. When it used the XVideo driver I had the gamma issues and any other driver is fine.

I simply went into the settings under General Options in KMPlayer, selected another video renderer that worked and now I can watch video.

I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

Cheers~

solved

i was having the same issue, glad i read your solution, many thanks.

i was testing different players, as i am in the process of abandoning VLC due to a seekbar issue (combined with little irks here and there that have been building up over the years). i don't know much about codecs and such and i almost blamed the washed out colors on KMPlayer, but switching to Haali decoder (or renderer or whatever) fixed it.

incidentally, i see a lot of complaints from users on forums regarding this problem, and i feel like they are also unaware that the setting is to blame rather than the player. i'm sure there are reasons for this but i have to say that vlc's default settings are simply optimal and version after version i have never seen a washed out effect. having said this, vlc is a trainwreck lately. not sure what the reasons are but i hope KM makes the full-color thing default in some future version.\ because as far as i see thus far it seems to be a far superior player for the average multimedia consumer.
