Question Kernel CONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_SHIFT=5 for laptop

I have a Pentium 4-M CPU with 512K of L2 cache. My system does
not see the cache when I run /proc/sysinfo. The category 'cache size'
is zero...

What does the '5' mean in the .config for CONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_SHIFT=5 ??

What declaration would I look for to enable the recognition of my L2
cache ? I am running RHEL 3.x , and out-of-box kernel on a Fujitsu Lifebook.
