Just installed mint7,GET BLACK SCREEN AFTER LOGIN, help!!!!!!!!
I did a dual boot install with vista first on my Fujitsu siemens AmiloPro V series(vista still works fine).
When I boot into Mint I get 2 errors on the black startup screen, MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC and MP-BIOS bug: #81(00000000) Found.
Then when I proceed there is a quick blink of a black screen with a strip of the mint "with elegance came freedom" logos at the top, then a quick blink of a white/grey screen, then I get the Login screen, after I entered my password to login I get a black screen and I can see the mouse pointer and move it around, and that is how it stays,al black.
P.S. the the instalation disk is working fine, and the live boot also.
Please, what are the specs of your hardware, especially video card?
also, have you ever installed any other distro, or is this 1st time?

I'm assuming that the livecd booted up fine when installing huh?
but, after installing it went south?
at bootup, at grub menu, move the selector to your reg mint entry
press "e" to edit boot entry
press down arrow to edit where it says "kernel whatever"
press "e" to edit kernel line
anywhere or at end of kernel line enter
"acpi=off apic=off failsafe"
then press enter, then press "b" while kernel line is highlighted.
It also says you have a bios bug "MP-BIOS bug: #81(00000000) Found."
I don't know about that
Hi,just realized when i saw the grub menu that I gave you the wrong list, the first line is the one you choose to boot mint normally, just the generic one, second is the generic(recovery mode) one and third is the memtest86+,and my vista one is last.
I tried to do what you told me but it didn't quite work out, when a highlight one of the lines in the menu there is a text line at the bottom with text already in,when I press "e" to edit the "e" appears on that line,so I tried to type the acpi=off apic=off failsafe there, but when I hit enter it doesn't give time to type "b" as it continues to another screen that shows a lot of text information of some sort.
It didn't do much, after I hit enter a blue screen titled "Package Configuration" appears with a menu box in the middle titled "Configuring xserver-xorg" don't know what that is ????
