Hi.

You have to add /path/to/java/installation/bin to $PATH.

For example, my java installation is at /usr/local/lib/jdk1.5.0/ , so I have:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/lib/jdk1.5.0/bin
in my ~/.bash_profile.

You'll have to log out and log back in again for any changes in .bash_profile to take effect.
