Question jack plug in installation doesn't work!


Hi all,
I am using an acer 4710z laptop.In addition to windows XP,i am also using fedora 8 .My problem is i couldn't install the jack plug in for my headset in fedora.yum install alsa is not working-it replied 'nothing to install',so i downloaded the alsa package and installed but that is not working.What should be the reason ?.Please give me a solution.
