Is Xfree86 running?
System: Dell Inspiron 1100
Distro: Suse 9.2, kernel 2.6.8-24, KDE 3.3.0 Dual Booting with Win XP And I'm totally new to this OS. Is Xfree86 running? How do I know if Xfree86 is running? I ask because I read the adventures of two other people who put Linux on their Dell Inspiron and they both had trouble getting the video to work right. I had to input the video settings manually, but otherwise it seems fine. What kind of testing or checking could I do to ensure that the video truly is correctly configured? Thanks for your patience and help, James Carruthers |
Well, if you can see a graphical interface, and the picture quality looks suitably sharp, then everything's working fine :)
If you've got an Nvidia or ATI graphics card, and you want to get OpenGL working, then you'll have a bit more to do. I think the SuSE update program can sort out Nvidia drivers automatically, and you can get the ATI drivers from the ATI website. |

But seriously: if you have a graphical display, it runs. |
Thanks!
I don't suppose you guys could answser any of my other newbie questions in this forum? :) James |
I already tried to, but since some of them are SUSE specific, you may have more success in the SUSE subforum. Maybe you could ask a moderator to move those threads.
