Question is it me or acpi?

hello;

I have the 2.4.22 compiled (it should include acpi), but when I turn off my laptop it doesn't shut off, I need to do it manually, nothing happens when the lid is closed, I haven't got any of that cpu throtteling, just reads the battery.
Is this normal?

you have to create acpi events and actions under /etc/acpi... and make sure your modules load in /etc/rc.modules.... check out this link... specifically the section on acpi... most should be applicable to any distro or laptop...

http://ltswww.epfl.ch/~dsanta/resour...ll-i8500-linux

the events include a safe shutdown by hitting the power button, display blanking when lid closed (on battery) and a few others...

I get a gateway timeout...

but I have found another document, so i got most of it working.
only cpu throttling doesn't work, and that is why I bought this laptop for so any other solutions...

might need to recompile your kernel with cpufreq support?

Try these:

http://ftp.linux.org.uk/pub/linux/cpufreq/

I tired the "standard" patch and got the same error... one of these worked (the latest for 2.4.22)

Lupin thanks a lot!

cpufreq is working! but when I look at /proc/acpi/CPU0/performance it still doesn't change to the right state... (but no need for solving that if my processor runs at 600mhz)

But I still have to stop my laptop by holding the power key for 4 seconds, any solution to this?

cat /proc/cpufreq

use this to manage it....

http://mnm.uib.es/~gallir/cpudyn/

try the link above again that timed out on you... if not I'll post some of the acpi events and config files for you from my system.

you're using the acpid daemon, right?

/etc/acpi/events:

create a script called "power" that contains this...

# This is a sample ACPID configuration

event=button/power.*
action=/sbin/shutdown -h now

ps. check out the lap-top mode patch for expanding battery life:

http://lists.insecure.org/lists/linu...op-mode-2.4-bk

I had to patch this to unmodified 2.4.22 sources and then apply the cpufreq patch to get it to work but it's worth it... I get 2-3 hrs of battery life now depending on my processor load... though still can't figure out how to get through an entire dvd...
