Internet problems on my laptop

Hey guys! I have a little problem connecting to the internet on my laptop (it's a Toshiba Satellite), although the internet it's working perfectly on my desktop. Both my laptop and desktop have Ubuntu (11.04 and 10.04). I had this kind of problem before, but the solution was to delete my DSL connection and re-create it; and then it would work. I tried this method many times in the past few days but with no luck this time. Can you help me make it work? Please

can you post the output of those commands on working and on non working machine:
Code:
route
cat /etc/resolv.conf
ifconfig
ethtool eth0
ethtool wlan0
#replace eth0 and wlan0 with the relevant interfaces

Ok....I have a problem... after entering " ethtool DSL1" it says that i need to install the 'ethtool' program. i typed 'apt-get install ethool' and it won't work because , naturally, i don't have internet and this installation requires 'fetching' some archives from a site. So..is there another way or i'm screwed ?

You think you might be able to install ethtool from your installation cd?

I think the most useful bit would be from lspci output. It can tell us which hardware it has.
Toshiba Satellite most likely has Realtek 819* card. It worked for me in 10.10 and 11.04, but it's better to check.

Isn't it possible to use the installation cd as repository or atleast establish a temporary network connection?

After posting this is the only thing that I could come up with.
