Sorry -- my mistake about the SuSE bit -- that's what it reads in your sidebar :) so maybe time to edit your profile :p but either way, you're still in the correct location here, and the right file.

As far as that file goes -- WOW! I've never seen so much stuff in one sound file; but that's Ubuntu for you I guess, trying to be everything & do everything automatically..

I don't know what else to suggest. The machine you have is really new, and while there *are* a bunch of other options you could try, I think that they are for different-enough machines that they won't help either. The only other advice I can suggest for now, would be to keep an eye on the ALSA mailing list archives, and/or send them an email inquiring if anyone happens to have an idea if/when this machine's audio device might get added.

If you do decide to email them, include the information you got from the CODEC#0 file, as well as the information from `lspci -vvxxx` and also it wouldn't hurt to mention what-all jacks or audio-plugs & how many speakers the machine has -- in other words, make their job of adding your machine to ALSA as easy as possible, should they decide to go ahead on it.

Best of luck in the meantime; if I see anything new on this situation anywhere, I'll post it here! And who knows, maybe someone else who hasn't read this yet, will offer a suggestion.

If you'd like to try *one last time* -- remove any other snd-hda-intel lines from your sound.conf file (or comment them out with a # symbol), and put this line:

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch

Then reboot (with fingers & toes crossed!) and after rebooting, check your mixer (Kmix, Alsamixer, or whatever you use) and see if you have more buttons, including a mute option(s).

Fingers crossed here too...

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work either. I guess this is just what happens when you buy a computer with a brand new chipset and install Linux on it...
