Unhappy Internal Modem problem

Hi guys.

By the way I found my distribution, Fedora with an interactive learning set that makes me ready to migrate to Linux, I have installed it beside my Windows XP on my IBM laptop. It's great & I am cool with that just beside It cant detect my IBM internal dial up modem (Modem(CDC)) which makes me reliant on my damn win XP again !

My modem is installed on COM3 in my WinXP, My learning tutorial said most internals are placed on 4 & I tried all /dev/ttys0-4 but it kept saying, it cant open my modem !!! I dunno what to do with this thing ?!?!

Can anyone here plz help me about it ?

With best regards.

Shahab.

P.S. my system info :

P M 740(1.7GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HDD, 15in 1024x768 LCD,
64MB ATI Radeon X300, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner,
Intel 802.11bg wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC),
1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, IEEE 1394,
6 cell Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Winmodems are problematic for linux; see http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO-2.html and http://linmodems.org/ for starters; google is your friend. What chipset is the modem ('lspci -v')?
