Question internal modem cannot be found


hey guys i recently installed RH8.0 on my compag armada.But sadly linux could not detect my internal modem on it.I have tried all the given ports on kppp but still it says "sorry modem cannot be found" .Some details of my modem as on my WINME is as follows

Make:lucent win modem
Port:COM3
Address:1478
Interrupt:11

Hopefully the above information should be useful for a solution.
