Intel Graphics Debian
 

Hi, my name is Jose, I am new to linuxquestions.org so please forgive me if i make mistakes in the post.
I am having trouble finding a package to install/configure the graphics on an Acer laptop (Acer Aspire One D257) running Debian 7 Wheezy.

as of right now I have found Intel Graphics Installer 1.0.2 but i seem i am unable to install it, according to 01.org it is for Ubuntu OS. since it is a deb file, i would have thought i would be able to install it with no problem on a Debian OS, but i get errors

This is what i run to try and install the .deb package

root# sudo dpkg -i intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.2-0intel3_i386.deb

and results

i can't seem to install the latest version nor can i uninstall the current version of libglib2.0-0.

configuring the graphics on this machine would be nice.
your opinion and advice would be highly appreciated.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Most intel video runs fine 'out of the box' with most linux distros. The main exception is intel video by PowerVR, with bad to awful linux support.

BTW, debain doesnt use sudo by default, and its quite common for ubuntu .deb packages to not work on debian systems.

Intel provides source code on their download page as well as binaries for Ubuntu and Fedora.
You could try compiling this for a Debian Wheezy installation, but there is a possibility that this package could mess up your system as it adds it's own repositories to your system.
I very much doubt that there is any benefit to using this with Debian as any 'features' it may add to your graphics chip set are probably not yet implemented in any Debian specific software. (i.e: the software currently in the Wheezy repository)

The Acer Aspire One D257 features an Intel GMA 3150 graphics core, which is pretty similar to the graphics core used in the old i910/915 chipsets. I doubt that you get any benefits from installing a newer driver than Debian's default driver, I would just leave it as it is.

The graphics hardware isn't that great. It was running on vary low bit resolution. But I managed to change it with xrandr. I changed from 640 x 350 to 1024 x 768 with basic graphics that just suddenly worked after changing the resolution.. Thank you for the replies.
