Installing windows XP on ubuntu.

Hi, I already have ubuntu 9.10 on my netbook. That is the only OS on my netbook. Now I want to install win xp and make it dual boot. I have mad e a bootable usb using unetbootin. But its not getting installed.
When i restart and try to boot from usb it keeps on counting 10 seconds continuously..

Change bios to boot usb. It's 1 of the f-keys.

MSFT becomes rather temperamental if you install it on any other partition other than the first one on the drive. Also it is easier to install MSFT first, and then your Linux distro due to boot loader reasons'issues.

When you say you have a bootable USB using UNetBootin, do you mean you have a FreeDOS bootable USB with the MSFT install disk on the USB?
If not you can find this process by doing a web search for 'Linux install Windows USB'

You can't easily make MS install from a usb. You'd have to fix that to make it bootable from usb.

Borrow a usb cd rom would be the most easy way. Other ways exist from network to bartpe to usb and then use installer over network or shared lan cd. Could maybe use bootable vista or w7 usb to run installer.

i thought i read somewhrer on the internet that microsoft now sells windows 7 on usb or something like that. i think it's only for vista/win7 no XP anymore..

You can't install Windows XP using Unetbootin!! GUARANTEED!! Use a program called BartPE.

Then you will need to reinstall GRUB using Ubuntu, by using Unetbootin
