Smile Installing Slackware and MAC OS X on a new apple laptop!

Hello all!

I think the subject of the thread communicates my intentions quite clearly, yet I will repeat myself.

I am about to buy an Apple Mac running OS X and I would like to be able to run in parallel both Linux (preferably Slackware) and the OS X that comes with it. Will I be able to run these on two different partitions (three maybe, 1) Slack. 2) OS X. 3) Shared files.)? Will I be able to install them?

If I am able to install them, will I have any driver issues and where could I get the OS X install?

Many Thanks!

PS: I apologize if this is not the post in which this thread should be!

My understanding is that Slackware isn't the usual choice for the Mac hardware. You don't say what type of mac you're contemplating; here's a link for the mac mini I found:

PowerPC versions usually run Yellow Dog Linux
and then of course there's slackintosh

Many apologies, I thought that being under the 'Laptop' section it would be understood. I am meaning to buy an Apple MacBook Pro 15", 2.4Ghz, 4GB.

Which of the versions you've mentioned would be sensible to install on the MacBook?

And in what way is Slackware not compatible with it?

Slackware wouldn't normally have the kernel patches; mostly to do with video and the EFI, from what I understand, which is not a lot. See

http://www.mactel-linux.org/wiki/HOWTO

and this

You might also find more competent help on a more mac specific forum... (sorry)
