Installing Nvidia Driver Lowers Resolution

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite with Fedora Core 2. When try to install the Nvidia driver, and edit my xorg.conf, it changes my screen resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 and puts a black stripe down the right side of my screen. When I attempt to use "Display" in "System Settings" to make my resolution 1024x768, it works, but it edits my xorg.conf and disables the Nvidia driver. Any attempts to edit the xorg.conf and enable the driver makes the screen 800x600 again. I'm using "Generic LCD Display 1024x768" as my monitor.

Is there any way to fix this? I've seen people having similar problems on here, but haven't found any good solutions.

Change the resolution with "Display" as you said...

Then edit the X config file manually to use the nvidia driver instead keeping the other changes. Also make sure to remove the references to "DRI" etc. For more info on what the config file should contain, go to the nVidia website and download the FAQ in pdf or text format...

What he said. Posting your config file could maybe enable some people to help you. Also, which driver version are you using? 6106?

Have fun in China. :) Wish I was going.
