From my last thread on attempting to install Mint on this laptop, I was led to antiX and that distro.
Through some of the experts there (big thanks to dolphin!!) I was able to get it installed.
But, I had some issues with the mouse pointer freezing that we could really not figure out.
But I did use the knowledge gained from that install to get Lubuntu 15 installed! Which I could not earlier..
It seems to run fine, mouse pointer works as it should.
So this is bringing up new questions, around the wifi card and connections
I don't know how to configure it, I don't even know if the card is being seen by Linux. In Mint, it was pretty straightforward. I installed Mint on a old Dell laptop and it was real easy. I played around with the network manager and from what I find online it should see my wireless network but does not, leading me to think the card is not installed correctly
here is my system

Personally, twas I you, I'd download Lubuntu 14.04 the LTS version. Buntu 15 is only good for 9 months then you have to do this again. Version 16.04, the next LTS (long term support) comes in late April but you will not have to bail from 14.04 even then.
The latest versions of Buntu are more focused on newer hardware and that can cause issues with older hardware. I've been running 14.04 (alongside MX) for a long time and it's steady and stable.
I assume the mouse issues in MX were from a touchpad? I never use them as I prefer a wireless mouse myself...
I use Lubuntu 14.04 LTS myself, it's a good distribution.
If you would, please open a terminal and post the entire output of...
Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2
Just copy and paste the command above into the terminal and do the same when you post the results. Rokytnji's command will work for all your hardware, not just the wireless adapter.

actually I am running Mint on a old Dell that I installed just a few days ago and its really nice, very quick and easy to configure everything which is what I am posting from now...
It is a lesser machine than this Vaio but for some reason I have had all kinds of trouble installing anything on the Vaio
Finally getting someplace but stuck at the wireless issue
really frustrating but I will get it resolved I am not giving up!!
At first glance, it doesn't appear that the driver and/or firmware for your adapter is loading at boot but I'm not sure. If you would, could I also get the outputs for...
Code:
lsmod
Code:
dmesg | grep -i wlan
If the latter doesn't work, try...
Code:
dmesg | grep -i wireless
If that still doesn't work, just use...
Code:
dmesg
However, in this case, there might be a lot to copy and paste.
Please retrieve the dmesg report right after the system boots up.
