Installing Linux on mac book pro8,1

Helo every one,

Could any one guide me installing Linux on mac book pro8,1.
I have few distros such as Fedora15, Ubuntu 11, Sabayon 5 etc, tried to install using refit but nothing succeeded,
this is how I experimented . . first I installed refit and partitioned the hard drive with disk utility, created 2 extra partitions one for swap and for root. al together I have 3 .. 1)Mac 2)Linux / ,3)swap.
Initially I partitioned 2 and 3 as MsDos FAT32 later I booted the f15 thru ReFit and formatted them as EXT4 and started the installation, did not last, and gave errors such as file missing.. got stuck, had to restart. Tried to experiment with Ubuntu 11- it says RAMfs not available to mount. Sabayon 5 did not detect the hard drive at all it says drivers missing.
I guess I am going in a wrong way, without preparing the hard drive to detect Linux I am starting with installation!!

I would request some one to assist me installing the correct distro in in my mac book pro.

Thank you :)

gday mate, i don't know about your module specifically, but i've installed ubutu on this macbook pro that i'm using atm, and from your steps, you sound like you're doing everything right. I don't know where you're installing the bootloader, (probably grub) but it need to go in your root partition, which minus the quotation marks, is labeled "/". this is an important step.
here's a guide, that i followed for my system apropriate to my module. this guide's steps can be transported basically to any other distro.
