Question Installing Linux on HP laptop

Hi All,

I have a HP zv6000 laptop that my advisor bought for me a few days ago. It has AMD Athlon 4000+ with 64-bit support and 1MB of cache and an ATI Mobile Raedon xpress 200M graphic card.

I was trying to install Fedora Core 64 version but for some reason even before it starts the installation, the screen goes blank. I connected the laptop to an external monitor and it said, "No Signal" when the laptop monitor went blank

I tried installing Suse 10.0 Eval 64 DVD and the same thing happened. I need Red Hat or Suse for my research, so please tell what is going on and what should I do?

Thank you,

Akiko

http://www.ensode.net/zv6015uslinux.html

Look at the above page:

# Installing

* Boot from the Fedora DVD or CD and enter the following at the boot: prompt: "linux vga=771", just hitting enter without entering this will result in a black screen early in the install with no way to abort but rebooting.

Always look in http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/hp.html before posting.

I have a zv6000 as well and I just put slack 10.2 on it. I have the slower processor cause I didn't have a choice in the matter. Anyway slackware seems to run cleanly the only issues im having is getting the wireless up and running (its a pain), Also checkout zv6000forums.com aka notebookanalysis.com as well. Oh also the ATI card can be a pain but I think they now have the driver for it,(the wireless requires ndiswrapper or similar program). Anyway my issue on the wireless will be posted in the slackware forum, its having issues detecting networks/accesspoints. Goodluck

Andy
