Installing linux mint on a macbook air?

Hi

I am considering buying an ultrabook in the near future for when I go to university. The best product that I have found so far seems to be the macbook air, with the 13 inch screen. It has the best features for its price and in my opinion it looks the best. However, I only ever use linux mint, so I was wondering how difficult it would be to wipe ALL of the apple software and start from scratch with mint.

Basically, I do not need any remnants of OSX on it - I would like it to simply boot straight to linux mint, like my other laptop which I bought with windows on it. I have read stories of people using rEFIt and other software to install linux on it, and that sounds a bit dodgy to me.

If I was to boot to a live mint thumbdrive and delete all the partitions on the SSD, then install mint over the whole drive, what would happen? Would it boot correctly? Also, what is the hardware support like in linux for a macbook air?

Thanks for any information anyone can provide!

Yes! It will. I also heard that people need to go in to the boot option: Start in compatibility mode. by pressing any key when it says "Auto booting in x seconds."
If you get to the installation sucessfully, choose a partitioning choice that is not "Something else".
That's all! And you are done.

I am indeed, very happy to see people use Linux on their macs.
