What's Zilla drag and drop? Sorry..you lost me there. :D

Are you burning in Windows or Linux? I'll be happy to recommend.

Burning in windows. Surfing for something now, but if you have a reccomendation I'l all ears. :)
Zilla and Drag'n Drop are the two CD write apps on this machine, but I'll bet there's something better.

In Windows, I've used Alcohol 120. It's not free, but I do believe there's a free trial period. You can find it here. I've also used many featured here. Make sure you burn your .iso as an image and you're not just copying the files.

Does that help?

This helps a ton. I was trying to solve the wrong problem.
I'll try to burn the disk correctly and then try again. Thanks again.

My Toshie 4600 boots from the CD if you hold the C key down as mentioned.
Need to do it while the Toshiba spash is displayed - documented in the white "Users Guide".

Can be dodgy with some CDs - I never could get one of the RH (7.2 maybe) to boot. Had to create a radisk floppy to get that started.

getting into bios to install linux

Good morning! I have a Satellite 5005-S507 (about 3 years old - how old is your model?). In my experience, you don't have to permanently change the bios to boot from disk like we used to in the dark ages. The moment I engage the power button I press down F-12 because Toshiba usually allows 2-3 seconds before it proceeds to search for the boot string. If you have the same "Toshiba" splash, You'll see TOSHIBA posted in red with some icons underneath. The first may represent a hard drive and the next may be a cd etc. If your laptop works the same as mine (and some others) the first icon will be underlined waiting for your decision to choose where the bios should look for the boot record. With a Linux cd (Mandrake 10 disk one), already in your cd driver, press the arrow keys of your keyboard to move the underline to the cd icon. Once there, press return. Your laptop should now boot from the cd. Toshiba provides this option in their laptops, so one doesn't have to permanently change the boot order in the bios to boot from a disk or cd like we used to in the olden days :D. The key has probably been a case of being quick enough to get F-12 pushed in time before the bios kick in to find the boot record. I hope this helps.
Best,
lhawk

BOOTING from CD

Every laptop that I have ever used, even the old, old, old Panasonic toughbooks, you can force into CD boot mode from startup by pressing the "C" key during bootup.

Don't waste your time going into the BIOS to change the boot sequence just to have to change it back...

Try this and good luck!!!!
