Installing Kubuntu 5.10 on 2001 Sony VAIO Laptop-Errors

I am trying to install Kubuntu 5.10 on my 2001 Sony VAIO laptop (all-in-one). When I initially boot-up the installation disk, i press enter (return). It starts to go through a startup-like procedure (text only). Then, it freezes on a line that says "ACPI: Subsystem revision 20050729". Can anyone tell me what is wrong, and why it is happening. If possible, I would also like a fix. THNX

Im not sure why it isn't working - Laptops should handle ACPI fine, but when it boots up, try passing the "acpi=off" option to the kernel.

It still doesn't work...It still hangs on the same text line. Please help!!!

have you checked the md5sum against the original?

How do you do that?

if you are burning the CD in windows you can find programs to do it with. The command in linux is:

md5sum [file]

compare that to the text file on the server where you downloaded your file and it should be the same. if not something has gone wrong during the download process
