Installing Fedora 12 getting error when booting

I have installed Fedora 12 on an Acer Travelmate 2420, When it boots up after the install I get the following error:
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0.0).

This is my first attempt to load Linux and I have no idea what to do next. Any help will be appreciated.

good next step would be to try with other distribution like ubuntu,mint..

I stepped back to Fedora 11 from 12 and was able to install it and bring up the laptop.
