try running 'modprobe bf44' as root from a terminal window. then use 'ifconfig eth0 up' to turn the NIC on. if that doesnt work post output of 'ifconfig -a', 'lspci', 'lsmod', and 'dmesg'. or search or here at for broadcom 440, it has been discussed many times.

Isn't there a support in kernel for this network card? Just compile the support in kernel and your all set up. I use Broadcom support in kernel but I'm not 100% sure of the model as it might have been 4400. I use Acer Travelmate 4202WLMi.
