Install SuSE 9.1 Linux on IBM Thinkpad G40.
Greeting All;

Any one installed SuSE 9.1 on an IBM Thinkpad G40? I would like to know if there is any problem with the installation.

Thanks - Sue

I'm a newbie in linux world, and my english is dangerous:

With my G40 with Xp preinstallated, after installing suse linux 9.1 and at rebooting I've a "grub error". My Pc can't start xp or linux. With google I found material about grub error and how to install linux on laptop wint xp.
In this day I'm trying to do it.

My first problem is to have an easy partition software to reduce xp ntfs partition...

I suggest to you to search documentation before starting installation.

Good luck!!!

1 - I've ripristinate initial condition of my G40 (Xp on NTFS and an hidded partition with IBM recovery software)
2 - in Xp reduce XP partition NTFS (I reduce it at 12 Gb)
3 - before xp partition create a little partition of 50 Mb (i read to use it to install bootloader)
4 - create a linux swap partition 1 Gb
5 - create a linux partition 10 Gb ReiserFS
6 - create a data partition 10 Gb Fat32
7 - create a data partition 22 Gb NTFS (for video editing)
8 - reboot and verify xp
9 - reboot with suse linux 9.1 cd
10 - i've selected manual installation because i believe to have an option for installing grub in 50Mb partition, but i dont' fount it
11 - now there are xp and linux on laptop starting with grub (50 Mb probably aren't used)
12 - in xp everything is ok, with linux that's appear ok I don't be sure because now I must learn how to install a printer, how to configure a modem ecc...
