Exclamation Install Linux on Windows and Partition Hard Disk

Hello everybody,

I'm new here, so please be nice to me, as I don't know alot.

I saw a friend who was using linux and he highly suggested it to me, so I thought I'd try it. If you could help me choose a linux version, that would be great. I need a visual one, because I can't even work the command prompt in WINDOWS, forget LINUX. If you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to me at smatrixman@gmail.com THANKS!

But anyway, when I tried to install yoper (yoper.com), I couldn't resize my Windows partition (takes up 38.5 GB out of the 40 GB) of my laptop. The reason I couldn't resize it is because "either windows was not shut down properly or is inefficient". I tried defragging it after using the chkdsk utility in Windows (that's the only DOS command I know, other than "dir" and "cls"). I have no idea what to do now. Somebody help?

By the way, my laptop is ok with all the system requirements.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

sgaum
