Install/Boot problem with OpenSuSE 10

I had SuSE 9.3 in my laptop, and decided to upgrade to OpenSuSE 10.0.

When installing, I got "AN ERROR OCCURRED DURING INITRD CREATION".

When booting, I get "/init: /sbin/vol_id: not found" followed by "Kernel Panic - Not Syncing: Attempted to kill Init!"

I tried running mk_initrd by hand, but that didn't solve the problem.

The only way I can get to use the laptop, is by booting with the CD1, and instead of doing UPDATE or NEW INSTALLATION, going to BOOT FROM HARD DISK.

Any ideas?
