Install Agere AC'97 Modem on IBM R40 in Fedora Core 1?
 

I installed Fedora Core 1 on my IBM R40 without a hitch. Dual boot with Windows XP Pro.

I am a newbie to linux and have searched around for answers. I understand the SLMDM drivers are the ones to use but as I am not completely converse in the command line concept I have a problem.

Is there anyone who has an extremely simple line by line, step by step instruction set of how to install, configure and get this modem to work ?

The best I get is the error 2 or error 7 messages.

Is there some way of having the system find modems on the computer as in windows (add hardware)???

I find it disheartening that such a new version of RedHat would not be more up to date on its modems as the IBM thinkpad's are very popular and this particular modem has been used for years.
