Talking inspiron 8600 and slackware9.1

hey i recently bought a inspiron 8600 and couldn't wait to get slackware running on it.

I installed slackware 9.1 and when it boots, it crashes on the boot screen.

On the screen where lots n lots of text scrolls down, passing and failing certain functions, it just crashes when it reaches this:

cs: IO port probe 0x0c00-0x0cff: clean.
cs: IO port probe 0x0800-0x08ff:

Any ideas? Please help before i lose my sanity

Interesting, cs is cardservices, looks like it's barfing on your hardware.
What kernel are you booting?
This is what I get on my OpenBook 1845,
Code:
cs: IO port probe 0x0c00-0x0cff: clean.
cs: IO port probe 0x0800-0x08ff: clean.
cs: IO port probe 0x0100-0x04ff: excluding 0x408-0x40f 0x480-0x48f 0x4d0-0x4d7
cs: IO port probe 0x0a00-0x0aff: clean.
cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: clean.

I get the exact thing and made another thread about it before finding this one.

I also have an Inspiron 8600.

I have Dell Latitude 600, I had the same problem, you need to disable PCMCIA service during bootup(search forum on how to do it), i disabled it during installation(slackware 9.1) and it is working just fine now.

hope this helped

Edit the "/etc/pcmcia/config.opts" file and delete "port 0x800-0x8ff" from the line "include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0x800-0x8ff, port 0xc00-0xcff".

So the line should now read "include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0xc00-0xcff".

You'll probably need to type "linux single" at the lilo boot menu.
