Inspiron 8200 BIOS Question

I have an Inspiron 8200 laptop with Windows XP on and Redhat 9.0 with GRUB as bootloader. My question is I want to update the BIOS on my laptop but on the DELL webpage it says that the required OS for the newest bIOS is Windows XP. OK, that I have but I am a little unsure if having Redhat 9.0 on also can mess up the BIOS if I update it?

Kind Regards

Most likely no... The BIOS update is probably going to monkey around the acpi settings, maybe disk tuning, something 2k would hork and explode on, but the Linux kernel will either ignore because it can't support it... or finally get to use. There were some bug fixes built into the kernel specifically for that series of Inspirons, it'll probably take care of the need for them.

Cheers,
