inspiron 4100

mandrake 9.2 locks up whenever i unplug or plug in my ac power cord. any suggestions on where to start?

Kinda, This is going to be a bit of a hunt.

I think Mandrake finally switched to acpi support instead of apm. A Dell Inspiron 4100 should have acpi support... I think. To make certain, look under the command "dmesg" for a bunch of chatter about acpi or apm.

Now, depending on which one it is there are different things to try. To see what's causing the freeze, there's the kernel log:


OR... you could also try going into BIOS, checking out what events its sending when things happen like lid closing/switching from AC to batt and monkey with the settings to try for a better result....


No matter what that's a buggy thing to happen, so you might want to look for a BIOS update for the laptop.

With annoying problems like this voodoo will probably solve it, hopefully those make for a good start.
