image checksum error, sorry....
 

i formatted my harddrive of my 380d ibm thinkpad and would like to install linux on it... i went to linuxiso.org and download the iso's for both redhat 9 and mandrake 10 and i get a checksum error with both from boot up...

error reads "

ISOLINUX 1.76 Mandrake Linux isolinux: Image checksum error, sorry...

Boot failed: press a key to retry...

pls tell me what i need to do...

i tried burnning multiple copies and i had a friend install redhat from the copies i made so i know its not the copy...

Welcome to LQ. Based on your description, I would say that you need to re-download the image file, then run MD5SUM on it to verify that it was not corrupted, then burn it to CD again. Be certain that when you burn it to CD, you burn it as an Image file (just copying the ISO file to the CD won't work)

To run the MD5SUM program, just type "md5sum" (no quotes) followed by the ISO file name. The output will be a long string of letters and numbers, which must match the published value from LinuxISO. If they don't match, there's no point in burning because the downloaded file is corrupted. Instead, you'll need to try downloading it again.

i c the only problem with that is i dont have a linux machine up and running to us md5sum im using a work computer to try and get my home laptop running is there any way that i can use md5sum on my xp machine at work????
