iBook G3
Hi, I'm considering buying an Apple iBook because I've always wanted one but never actually got round to buying one. I was wondering if Linux is easily configurable with Apple iBooks. I am lead to believe that Apple's OS is build on a Unix/Linux platform but I'm not 100% sure on this. Apple's OS is pretty good looking but I prefer sticking with Linux.
Thanks, Heartagram. |
Hi, I'm a complete beginner at Linux but I wanted to pass along this link yellow dog linux store where you can buy a new ibook with Yellow Dog Linux already installed.

I believe most or all iBooks run Linux PPC well. I ran Debian PPC on a G3 Powerbook (Wallstreet model with 192MB RAM and 292MHz CPU) and it worked fine but there is one *huge* annoyance I have with Apple's laptop computers: One mousebutton. One. Not even two but one. Imagine running X with only one mousebutton - it's not fun at all. This is my pet peeve with these otherwise fine machines.

Can you not get a two button external mouse for it? I can imagine it being higly annoying!

I understand that a normal usb mouse will work perfectly well with Apples.
