Question IBM Thinkpad R32 - winmodem support

I have a Thinkpad R32 with an internal modem, i have tried to use modem with 3 distros - PCLinux OS(PCLOS), PHLAK & Linspire the modem works with Linspire as slmodem drivers are included but linspire has no compilers so i cannot compile apps to use with my modem . I have tried installing slmodem drivers on PCLOS & PHLAK but was unsuccessful . Is there a distro apart from Linspire that includes the slmodem drivers? or Could someone recommend a distro that is easy to install slmodem drivers?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Check here and here - there might be some drivers for your modem, and they both have links to a tool that will detect your modem chipset, IIRC.

i have been to linmodems and downloaded drivers but none of them are supported by the kernels in the distros i am using, i installed some drivers under PCLinuxOS i was able to configure a dial up connection but the modem won't actually dial i used the Mandrake rpm(s) i think they are outdated
