I have come to the conclusion that, with a little work, the Thinkpad 770X can work fully in Linux! As a result, I have rated the IBM Thinkpad 770X a 10 (excellent) in the Hardware Compatability List. My review contains lots of info on setting up the Thinkpad, and might be of interest of other users of the 600, 600E, and 770 series Thinkpads. See the following linuxquestions HCL entry:

The Linux thinkpad websites out there are *really* old; they haven't updated the petitioning for the MWave WinModem support, which now exists (thumbs up to IBM for releasing GPL drivers now included in the Linux kernel
) My review hopefully provides an update, plus some extra cool tips. For instance:
* DPMS power saving (so that when playing videos with something like mplayer, the screen won't blank out)
* smooth DVD playback (using XVideo)
* hardware midi fm synth (using sbiload --opl3)
* how to set up the MWave modem (the available howto for this is soooo old! )
Checking the Hardware Compatibility List is not something a Thinkpad user is likely to do often, because the Thinkpads haven't been reviewed much. I hope this post raises awareness of the Linux Questions HCL, as well as the particular review I have posted.
With Regards
