IBM T43p and Ubuntu Gutsy

I am using a IBM T43p with gutsy, when I try to make the laptop sleep or hibernate the system never actually gets to the sleep state and I have to do a hard shut down and restart. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have found the site http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...roup_id=117042 that has patches, however if i run the patch command to install the patch i get the following error: "patch: **** strip count l is not a number" any suggestions?

hi

Im running 7.04 on my ibm t40, but this may work for you as well
mine would not hibernate just as yours is doing also. I read this
in another post and it worked for mine.

go to system/preferences
select power management
change the selection for "when laptop lid is closed" to hibernate.
click the on battery tab and do the same.
close the window

close the lid and see if it hibernates after a few seconds.
(10 to 20 seconds)

hope this helps

Lightbulb

hello there

i just bought a used thinkpad T42. i was thinking about installing ubuntu instead of xp in order to get better performance with this old laptop.

but now, there is a confirmed rumor that power management does not work properly with ubuntu (i dont know about other distros). aggressive power managment could be killing the hard disk because ubuntu does not overwrite bios defaults (unlike windows). read all about it here

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/104535

so i will stick with winxp until this problem is resolved.
