I have no ALSA mixer in the device chooser

I'm running Linux Mint 5, and after a clean install, I downloaded the applications I use on Linux, and I've come to realize that I have no ALSA mixer option in the options dropdown of the volume control.

When I right click on the volume applet on the panel, and go to "Open Volume Controls" I then go to File > Change Device, and all I have is Realtek ALC268 (OSS Mixer), and no ALSA Mixer and the other 3 options I used to have on other installations.

(I'm still a newbie)

I made sure (when using Package Manager) to search for "alsa" and install EVERYTHING that was related. That did the trick for me.

The only thing I have installed is the "alsa-base" files. All the others seem to be things that I bet aren't going to make it work. Do you suggest I still mark everything "alsa" for installation?
