Hybrid Graphics: AMD/ATI Radeon and Intel HD

Hi everyone,

I have a laptop with hybrid graphics and need some help with configuring the kernel (4.4.27) for it. I've followed these instructions, but still no result.

Here's the deal: Radeon is shown as working (in lshw, lscpi, xrandr, glxinfo), but I still don't see the difference. When watching Full HD and even HD Youtube videos it lags. Without working Radeon (I've been using it all the time) HD videos play fine, Full HD vids lag. When using Ubuntu LiveUSB I've tried watching them and even 4K vids play fine.

For some weird reason my whole RAM amount changed from 5850 MB to 5851. Previously it happened with CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y, which is disabled now. I'm not using initramfs/initrd. GRUB options don't make a difference. xf86-video* packages are installed.

If anything else you need to know about the hardware and configs please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

IMHO get a recent kernel, 4.8.4. Hybrid graphics work better with up to date software.

I have Skylake Intel+AMD (i7-6820HQ with Intel 530/AMD FirePro W5130M) laptop. AMD is pretty much worthless as besides playing videos and glxgears i cannot use it for anything more serious like Steam games as it locks up.

But the Intel chip is a monster in video playback. Using smplayer+mpv and vaapi hardware decoding plays 3840x2160@60fps clips (such as Big Buck Bunny with ~18% CPU (of a total 800%) without even breaking a sweat.
The AMD cannot even play those clips since it does not have support above full hd in vdpau.

BTW you need at least kernels 4.7 for Skylake + the firmwares.
