Angry HP zd7010 screen & touchpad problems

Hello,

I am new user of Linux and I started by trying Mandrake 9.2 on my machine. As I experienced problems including no sound etc., I then decided to purchase SuSE 9.0 Professional in order to have also free support.... Although the installation was easy and successful, there were still some issues and the support from SuSE is bad, as they don't seem to want to help.

Anyway, my pc is an HP Pavilion zd7010ea laptop with nVidia 5600/448Go graphics, 17” screen with 1440x900 resolution at 60Hz.

First of all, the touchpad doesn't work despite the fact that it did during the installation (while I had an external mouse connected at the same time). After the completion of the installation and the configuration of my external mouse, the touchpad doesn't work. I have installed the drivers from Synaptics and I have even tried to reboot my pc without the external mouse connected, but still doesn't work.

The most important problem though is related to the screen. I downloaded and installed the latest nVidia driver, which works fine. The problem starts when I try to configure my screen. Although I enter the resolution of my screen, the screen appears to flick, especially when I open windows or run applications. I have spent several hours trying different combination in terms of monitor types, syncronisation rates etc but the problem seems not to have a solution.

I would really appreciate any ideas or advise!!!

Thank you very much

Konstantinos
