IMHO, the touch pad has sod all to do with the wifi.
Broadcom? Try these commands as root somewhere
lspcmcia
lspci
psusb
search for your broadcom. When you find it use a -v option to get more detail.
lsmod |more
search for ssb, b43, btusb.
ssb has b43_pci_bridge built into it usually.
EDIT: If the touchlight isn't on, the device is powered off. Check the Bios. Also try
dmesg |grep -i Broadcom
Don't be fooled by a broadcom wired nic. I have a hp 6715s with a broadcom 5906 wired nioc and a broadcom 4312 wifi card. Once you know what you have, pump the name into
www.google.com/linux and read up how others sorted it out.
You will probably need a kernel 2.6.27.x or later.
