HP Pavilion DV7-1020us - anyone tried to install?

I've just picked up this laptop, and was wondering if anyone has experience with installing linux on it, or one from the same hardware-family?

Thanks.

Not familiar with that one. I'm currently running Slack on an HP dv6000 and everything is working great.

Perhaps you should try a couple of LiveCD distros on it just to look for any hardware issues that may crop up.

Hello jamied66, I have a DV7-1070 with Fedora 9 on it. Works ok except for some setbacks, audio glitches sometimes and I had to disable the acpi service because it tends to lock up the notebook:
Code:

Aug 31 13:24:46 soushi kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [Xorg:2424]
On the other hand, the webcam worked out of the box, just like some of the media buttons. And getting wireless to work was relatively easy too.

I've decided on OpenSuse 11 as a distro (although I'm typically a debian/ubuntu fan for desktops).

Most of the buttons worked out of the box. I haven't looked at the webcam as of yet, but it did pick up my video card correctly.

What process did you go through to get the wireless up, and what kernel are you using in FC9?

I've had some sound glitches as well. I'll tackle them after the wireless.

Wireless: http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php...le_ndiswrapper
Kernel: 2.6.25.14-108.fc9.i686
Webcam should work out of the box.
